Reclaiming the Sierra

Tackling Mine-Scarred Lands at Reclaiming the Sierra 2017

May 1, 2017

For California residents the development of regulations and programs to ensure that the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA) is appropriately implemented has very real implications. Without proper rules and enforcement the communities and ecosystems of California’s resource-bearing headwaters may be subject to a continued legacy of mining impacts.

Join The Sierra Fund at our fourth biennial Reclaiming the Sierra conference where on Monday May 8 we will pair technical presentations on mine remediation with a policy panel to discuss the development of the landmark legislation that was passed last year marking the most significant reform to SMARA in a generation.
